24 Day 7 1:00 AM – 2:00 AM
|
In the Previouslies, it’s the little known Jack and Doug show. “Good day, eh!” “Oh, take off, you hoser. Here, I’ll shoot you in the knee for being so stupid.” Hodges is indignant that anyone would look for bioweapons on his land. Tony is Left Behind. Jack is down and needs a medic. Does FBI HQ have a lot of medics on hand? Jack could benefit from his daughter’s stem cells. Jack misunderstands. “Ten cells? What, in the brain? Yeah, that sounds like my daughter. Miss Brainiac she was not in school.” Man overboard! Hodges threatens the Prez, who gets all pms-y with the military. As we begin, we have Twin Tonys! Boy, this show is using the heck out of those semis. Jack helpfully tells Tony that the air strike was called off because the Prez didn’t think the info was strong enough. And, uh, when was this info communicated in the last few minutes? Tony is angry, but you’d think be relieved, seeing as how he’s sitting right on top of the target of the air strike. Wasn’t he supposed to make a run for it? Tony is told he can expect exfiltration at the SW perimeter. I am totally lost as to where we are now. Originally they were at the NE corner of the massive Starkwood estate. Oh dear, the baddies are pumping RP-7 into tanks. That can only mean one thing. Starkwood is working on remote prostate exams. noooooooo!
Tony suddenly has some C4 and a detonator. Is that what he swiped off that soldier? Back in the Oval Office, the Prez is just hanging out, chillin’. But, Tim interrupts and the Prez gets all pms-y with him. Then, Jack calls and gets all pms-y with the Prez. Everybody just needs to stop and nibble on a bucket of St Johns Wort or something. John calls the Prez a big fat stinky liar. Well, he says it diplomatically. The Prez says she can sit down with Hodges and “make him realize the futility” of his ways. Jack reacts accordingly. He says “Are you naive enough” to believe that? Jack wants to give Tony a chance to make rockets go boom. Jack says “I am begging you, trust me.” Usually on this show, when Jack says that, it’s a prelude to WWIII. Jack also helpfully knows the temperature at which RP-7 burns. Jack must be killer good at Trivial Pursuit. Also, is it just me, but does it seem strange that Jack is the only human being giving orders and talking to the President about this threat facing the country? Hodges is already at the White House, with Evil Greg in tow. As they walk through the White House, the damage from all the gunfire and explosions that occurred mere hours ago has been remarkably plastered and painted over. New paintings hung. Potted plants placed delicately over big blood stains. Larry gets a call. Where is he? He fled Starkwood in shame in the helos, and where’d they go? Never saw them again. Back at the dramatic rocket fuel loading, one baddie will go off and check the perimeter. Again. Hmmm, maybe we should keep our eye on this guy. “Freeze!” Aha! Tony gets the jump on the baddie Stokes. (I think he’s Stokes.) He orders the gun kicked his way, then clobbers the other baddie. That’s dirty pool, Tony. He’s standing around in the light like he’s pretty sure nobody else is in the vicinity. At the first break, clocks are at :13 to :13. Coming back, clocks are at :17 to :15. Time moves like it’s running through a vat of molasses. Tony is standing in front of a sign that says “Fuel Deposit Silo #1.” The baddie Tony frogmarched down there is handcuffed to some pipes. Welcome to Tony’s Love Dungeon! Back in the Squished Circle Office, Hodges says of Seaton “He’s a remarkable man. Doesn’t look remarkable.” That like saying some is deceptively fast. Either that means someone really is fast but looks slow, or is really slow but looks fast. So, is Seaton remarkable or not? You decide. The linguini-spined President says “Thank you, gentlemen.” Uh, why the politeness? These two were involved in the crashing of airliners, the near catastrophe in Kidron, the invasion of the White House, and are now threatening to fire deadly bio goop at American cities. I’d say some snarling and table pounding were in order. Also, these fellows, known to be involved with deadly terror attacks on US soil, are left alone in the Oval Office with the President. Well, I’d say security procedures could use some firming up and/or updating. Hodges denies the “baseless accusation.” Well, he’s gotta admit, there is some base to them, yes? Now, Hodges reveals the Big Picture. He wants Starkwood to be involved with military planning. In fact, he’s brought bound reports to review with the President! Ha! Hodges wants to “move past this” and then coldly orders the President “Pick up the document.” Well, we know no US President would cave into terrorists like that, so the document will go unread, right? Right? btw, just why does Hodges think all this is going to work? He’s threatening to fire bio weapons at American cities? Does he seriously think the US government will overlook that, and work with him? Back at Hodges Lair for the Criminally Insane, Tony is overpowered, there is a kickboxing match, and the main baddie manages to punch in Code 363. A technician says that means a government breach (wow, they have some detailed codes. What’s the code for “stray cat running across the runway?”) The technician is quesy about “killing 10,000 people” but the head scientist baddie tosses him aside and begins the launch sequence. Clarksville seems to be a target. The one in Tennessee? I hope not! I know some folks who live there. Clarksville is also near Ft Campbell, home to the 101st Airborne. Oh, one of my favorite cliches. We’re a go! Or are we a stop? We’re a cautious advance! We’re a reckless charge! Tony had lost his detonator down a grate during the fight, but manages to reach it and blows the missiles to Kingdom Come. He tries to take flight Superman-style to get out of the way of the picturesque fireball. And now, back to the Oval Office, where the President has disemboweled the terrorists and nailed their skins to the wall. Oh, wait, I guess the President picked up that document as ordered. And her gesture of weakness is rewarded by Hodges saying “these points are nonnegotiable.” See, Madam President? Tim comes in and says there is something urgent. Prez leaves the two terrorists alone in the Oval Office. Ok, something else to update in the security procedures. Prez is told the missiles have been destroyed, so the Secret Service agents still alive are sent into arrest Hodges and Seaton. Hodges says “You think this ends with me?” Oh great, more mysterious shadowy figures at work? What will happen? Hodges says “You’ll find out.” At the break, clocks are at :27 to :25. Coming back, clocks are at :31 to :29. Gracious, biohazard teams are already at the smoking ruins of Starkwood Missile Command, they’ve already determined there is no bio threat. Whatever. Jack talks to the Prez, and tries to put in a good word for Tony. However, Jack starts forgetting things. (Recall his wife Teri became Forgetful Teri for a time in Season 1. Must run in the family.) Tony is in cuffs, as he is to be taken into custody. The Starkwood mercs are thankfully surrendering. Back at FBI Galactic HQ, Jack is talking to the doc. The doc says hallucinations can also be a sympton. Jack says “it’s not just the memory loss. It’s, well, you know, man problems.” Walker gives Jack the happy news. Kim is there. SPLUTTER SPIT GAG. What?!? Kim is back? Jack has much the same reaction. He express his displeasure with Walker. Ah, I see. Kim came to town for the Senate hearing, and has been trying to reach Jack all day. Jack is mad because he was ok with dying, and didn’t want Kim to witness that. At the break, clocks are at :38 to :36. Coming back, clocks are at :43 to :40. And now, the touching Kim-Daddy reunion scene. We really haven’t seen her since she took off with a shrink old enough to be her father. That was just after the deadly nerve gas attack on CTU. Jack survived that by holding his breath. Now, he tried holding his breath around the bio weapon, but Jack is older now, his powers aren’t what they were, and Jack is dying. The krazy kaptions start making up words and say Jack is “breathing laboredly.” It’s a nice scene between the two. Jack says there is a small risk to Kim. Huh? Why? They just need to collect some stem cells from Kim, yes? How hard can that be? In the end though, Jack says she must leave. And she does! Apparently doesn’t want to help Daddy too much. I hope she’s stuck around. As Kim flees down the hallway, Jack emotes. Backk at the Starkwood perimeter, an FBI agent says Auxiliary Gate 6 is all clear. Oh, he spoke too soon! That guy who earlier went to check the perimeter a second time shoots the FBI agent. But, another agent is there and pulls a gun on him. “Freeze!” Then, he says into his comm “Code Red.” Hmm, Diet Code Red is my favorite soda, too. He orders the baddie “Hands on the hood.” There’s a rap song in that somewhere. The agent discovers the baddies has a canister of the bio goop. Now, I don’t know the first thing about apprehending dangerous suspects. But, I’d think somewhere near the top of the list of steps to follow is make sure the suspect is not in a position to arm you. Make him lie down on the ground or something. Letting him stand up while you’re within reach of a kick while you let your attention wander elsewhere seems dangerous. And indeed. Pow biff bango. Baddie kicks the agent, takes his gun, and shoots him. Lesson learned. The baddie drives off in the FBI vehicle. At the break, clocks are at :49 to :47. Coming back, clocks are at :54 to :51. Janis is just sitting there, staring at something. Oh, she’s helping track the baddie. Who is now by Smoketree Avenue. Someone says the DC police are covering the county line? They are? The baddie took off only minutes ago? That was enough time to contact the DC police and get them into position? Ok, I know, never mind. Larry takes the cuffs off Tony, probably not following procedure there. Larry is pursuing the badde in a helo. They land near the baddie, and Pow biff bango, the pilot is shot through the window. (Well, the pilot is shot through the heart. The helo is shot through the window.) A firefight ensues behind a dumpster. Not since Milo and Marilyn got into a gunfight behind a dumpster have dumpsters been so exciting. Bango! Larry is down. And not doing so well. But Tony will help him. Right? Tony? Tony! TONY! What are you doing? Oh no, Tony is in cahoots with the baddie, and murders Larry, with an evil expression. These Undead. You just cannot trust them, can you. Huh, must say I didn’t see that coming. It is one of the better surprises 24 has come up with in recent seasons. The episode ends with Chloe trying desperately not to laugh at the silly commercial they have her doing. The clocks are at :00 to :56. Number of times someone says a variation “Now!”, “No!”, “Move!” or “Go!”: 80

Viewer discretion is advised because seeing law enforcement officers killed because they fail to follow proper procedure is disturbing.

Indeed, the Undead is born of evil, it is their nature. Some quotes from Bram Stoker’s Dracula…
“Do you not know that tonight, when the clock strikes midnight, all the evil things in the world will have full sway?”
“…this, then, is his new scheme of evil…”
“Were another of the Undead, like him, to try to do what he has done, perhaps not all the centuries of the world that have been, or that will be, could aid him. With this one, all the forces of nature that are occult and deep and strong must have worked together in some wonderous way. The very place, where he have been alive, Undead for all these centuries, is full of strangeness of the geologic and chemical world”
