Tier-1 Lefty Blog Picks up on the Seifert ‘Flush the PaulBots’ Kerfuffle

DustyTrice.com:

Everyone familiar with the blog Truth V. The Machine? Well, Gary Miller who runs the show over there appears to be coming down pretty hard as a supporter of Laura Brod.  Heck, he even started a Facebook Group called ‘Draft Laura Brod For Governor 2010‘.

So it should come as no surprise that Mr. Miller and his Machine are firing back now that Marty Seifert supporter, former Congressional candidate Michael Barrett, is ripping into the so called ‘Radical PaulBot Fringe’.  Here’s a message sent by Miller to the members of the ‘Draft Brod’ Facebook Group:

Gary M. Miller sent a message to the members of Draft Laura Brod for Governor 2010.

Subject: Why does the left fear Laura Brod?

Friends of ‘Draft Laura’:

I was struck by the level of intensity with which certain elements of the left are already attacking a strong, smart conservative woman just days after it became likely Rep. Brod would seek the GOP endorsement for governor. We saw last summer how the left would stoop to fear and innuendo in order to thwart someone who threatens their hold on a particular voting bloc. Exhibit #1: http://www.truthvmachine.com/?p=10881

Sadly, we have already seen some of Laura’s prospective opponents for the endorsement begin their campaigns — not with policy prescriptions for moving Minnesota forward — but on personal attacks.

Finally, I was dismayed to see a prominent supporter of Rep. Seifert send out an email many of you saw in which he called Ron Paul’s supporters “the radical PaulBot fringe”. How can we expect to win an election if we disparage one of the most active and liberty-minded parts of the party?

Best regards,

Gary M. Miller

Well, Gary has just updated his comments in light of Seifert’s utter failure to acknowledge his own supporters open attacks against the followers of Ron Paul. Check it out:

Subject: The sounds of silence

Friends,

Yesterday morning I brought you word of a disconcerting series of emails wherein a prominent supporter of Rep. Seifert sought to disparage our friends who were supporters of Ron Paul in last year’s presidential primary season. It is difficult not to acknowledge that these folks are some of the hardest working members of the party and also offer a well-needed return to our limited government roots.

Yesterday afternoon the blog Minnesota Conservatives published these emails in their entirety.  You can read them here: http://conservativeminnesotans.blogspot.com/2009/06/seifert-supporter-trashes-ron-paulers.html

You can also see the left’s commentary on the subject here:  http://www.dustytrice.com/

As disappointing as these emails are it is even less encouraging that Rep. Seifert has thus far failed to comment on this topic.  How can we approach a difficult general election campaign in ‘10 with a party at war with itself?

Best,

Gary M. Miller

Let’s face it.  Marty Seifert has a history of childishly cutting off access to anyone who disagrees with him, so this really comes as no surprise. Will Seifert respond now that the issue is boiling over into various public forums? And will Laura Brod be openly embracing the Ron Paul movement soon? Good questions.  I’ll be keeping an eye of this one.

    Gary,

Marty did call me to personally distance himself from M!ke’s comments.

    M

  2. Gary M. Miller Says:

That IS encouraging. I trust he was also calling to distance himself from his fundraising letter urging participation in the PCR program.

  3. Marty Seifert Says:

    Dear Gary,

We are in the middle of caucus elections to for my replacement as Minority Leader. For the record, I do not agree with what Mike Barret said and told him immediately after he sent his e-mail. He sent is without me knowing and without my permission – he does not speak for me or my campaign. I spoke with Marianne Stebbins, 7th District Chair Craig Bishop and other Ron Paul supporters to let them know this as well.

While I appreciate your support for Laura Brod, my friend, I think your energy might be better served attacking Democrats rather than me. We have freedom of speech and I appreciate that, but let’s be honest: every single House Republican, including Laura Brod has used the PCR program during their time in office. Not using it for the last 10 days of its existence somehow is an issue? I guess if that is the #1 issue for Republicans, than I will find that out. So far, I have not heard from anyone that it’s a big deal, other than you and a couple of Laura’s supporters.

Let’s keep the main thing, the main thing. Winning the Governor’s office on real issues.

    Thank you.

    Marty Seifert

  4. Gary M. Miller Says:

Thanks for stopping by, Rep. Seifert.

You are correct in pointing out that far too many of our caucus has used public financing for campaigns. In my mind at least what separates this instance from others is that the Governor, leveraging unallotment, correctly sent PCR to the dust-bin of history where it belongs. I was unsettled to see your effort to leverage the program in an aggressive way. For too long Republicans have been against government spending — until it proves to come at a personal cost. For that reason I thought your first instinct and that of your likely opponent was illustrative in light of the budget situation in which many Minnesotans are being asked to sacrifice at great cost.

Regardless, please accept my great thanks for stopping by and taking time to explain your position.

    Warmly,

    Gary M. Miller

  5. Tim Utz Says:

I to, am disappointed Marty chose to collect PCR fund in the 11th hour and sent Marty an email stating so the other day. The issue of state spending is such a priority, as a candidate during the 2008 elections I refused PCR. Our current campaign for 2010 also refused to participate in the PCR program. We enjoyed being on the leading edge of financial restraint in the political arena. The downside of our governor using un-allotment on PCR is we lost a talking point against the liberal Democrat I am running against. Oh well she provides plenty of other issues to challenge.

  6. Tim Utz Says:

One follow-up, I am a supporter of Marty Seifert for governor, and active 2010 candidate for Minnesota House.

  7. Lloyd Says:

So where can we see a tete a tete blog debate on where the candidates stand on the issues? It would be nice to see something written in candidate’s own hands on describing where they stand on the issues and responding to other’s stances.

It’s great that Marty has a website and Laura has a website but how about a blog debate/discussion between them and the other candidates? Do any of the party websites host anything like that? Why not?

  8. Sam Says:

So when do get the apology from the Ron Paul types.
They have been trashing candidates for Party leadership and anyone who supported them – Take a look at what they did when one of their own kind dared not follow the Ron Paul way during elections.

I’m not Marty fan, but I could care less about sucking or not to a group that is so politically stupid that even tried to defeat John Kline during the last election.
