« Offsetting Penalites…Upon Further Review» Reaping the whirlwind

This is a thing I have never known before

It’s called easy livin’…

Lori “If you’re not passing out from the pain, you’re not paying enough in taxes” Sturdevant takes to the Stribwaves and *gasp* says the only solution to Minnesota’s education system is more money. In fact, the title of the column is “Legislative session could be idea-rich, cash-poor.” (Squire Berg noted the title as well.)

Uh-huh. Well, I have many ideas that this skinflint legislature won’t fund.

I’d like to pave the road between my home and my place of employment with gold bricks.

I’d like the state to give every citizen in Minnesota a Christmas gift of $100,000.

I’d like the state to pay for eunuchs to feed me peeled grapes.

And like these quality ideas, the DFL has thoughtful suggestions for education “reform”.

State Rep. Mindy Greiling, DFL-Roseville, says bipartisan accord is within reach on a new, simpler funding formula for K-12 education, one better tied to what up-to-the-standards schooling actually costs.

All that’s needed, she said, to sell the Legislature on the recommendations likely to come out of a task force she cochairs is (drum roll, please) more money. A cool $1 billion more per year, phased in over a few years, would do the job.

A billion dollars?

Boys and girls, we are already spending well over six billion dollars a year on education in this state. Reform does not mean “tax the peasants down to the nubs.” Reform means trying to get a handle on the labor costs.

When families deal with the realities of household budgets, they don’t balance the bottom line by rushing out to buy a Lamborghini.

If you think we’re not paying enough in taxes already, see this eye-opening post at Anti-Strib.
