On the way in this morning I flipped by the Bob Edwards show on XM. He often has good interviews. I like his style. He has that vocal equivalent of a hint of a merry crinkle around the eyes. However, he can also be a ninny. This morning, he was talking to someone named Tom Miller, who has been to Cuba as a journalist. Miller was describing a visit where he was just sitting on a park bench talking to someone when a policeman came by and asked for their papers. After going to his police car and checking something, Miller was arrested and taken to some government building where he was questioned for a couple of hours. They asked if he had been handing out copies of a 1948 declaration on human rights. Apparently someone matching Miller’s description had been handing them out. Miller said “I wasn’t mistreated per se, but it wasn’t a happy experience.” And Edwards says (may not be exact quote) “At least you were treated better than people over in Guantanamo.” Oh puhleaze. What is with this Lefty kneejerk reaction to bash America. America is worse than the oppressive Communist regime in Cuba? Not even close. As for how prisoners are treated, you can dig up reports from people who have visited. This was Charles Krauthammer a couple years ago,
The residents there have been picked for terror-related activities, or for attacking our troops. Miller was just sitting on a park bench. The equivalent is….? Anyone? |

Jeff –
Let’s be careful. Unless you’re divulging classified information, you don’t know why the Gitmo prisoners were picked up. And neither do we. And we won’t, because they won’t be charged or tried with anything.
But we know our government never makes mistakes, so they had to be bad guys, right?
