From a discussion thread I posted at Race 4 2008:
I am reminded of the televised debates among the candidates for the New York City mayoralty in 1965. (Buckley was the nominee of the Conservative Party.) As you might imagine, Buckley stole the show.
At one point, Buckley had finished his answer to a question in less than the allotted time, and the moderator informed him he had another 45 seconds left. Without missing a beat, Buckley replied, “Thank you, Mr. Pressman. I think I shall just reflect silently upon the eloquence of my previous remarks.”
