Regarding Garys’ posts on the menace of red broccoli.

One of our problems is that too many people actually like the socialism bit. Or at least they think they do. To them, “socialism” means “government gives me all this stuff and for the most part someone else pays for it.”

Broccoli is an apt metaphor, as it is of the Cruciferae family, Cruciferae meaning “cross-bearing.”

Government is far too eager to nail us working stiffs to a cross, and our crosses are getting heavier and heavier to bear.
